1. Stop 1

   The Lincoln Memorial, dedicated to America's 16th president, has been a focal point for protests, celebrations, and reflection since 1922. Daniel Chester French's seated Lincoln faces the Reflecting Pool toward the Washington Monument, with inscribed words like the Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural providing insight into American ideals. The steps have hosted historic moments, including Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech.

   Maya Lin's Vietnam Veterans Memorial features a black granite wall inscribed with the names of 58,320 fallen or missing Americans.
